Eugène Reijmers and boats.......

Eugène Reijmers grew up with boats. He's from a family in which most people used to be sailors. When he was little, he always played with boats. In his student years he bought (just like his brother Felix) an old ship (called 'Leentje'), which he redecorated completely in the course of years.

As he did not want to become a pants salesman for a living, he started a serious study to become a drama teacher. After some specializations he became a fully licensed teacher. But, he also was a child of the sixties; undisciplined as he was he started an own company 'the floating theatre'. In this way the 'Leentje' became the first way he earned his living with 'boating'.

Sailing yacht Elessar sailing under the bright sun

The most significant project he undertook until now in his lifetime certainly is Sailing yacht Elessar. For more then 13 years Eugène has sailed with his in both the Greek and the Turk waters. Initially chartering on a hired yacht in Greece he saw his way in securing a beautiful casco based on an article in the Dutch monthly De Waterkampioen. An 'ocean racer' which he soon named 'Elessar', the name being based on a character in the famous stories of Tolkien. On this ship he went to Greece after a very intensive restauration job (he only had an emty hull and a huge moutain of all kinds of ship stuff). To endeavour his luck. As written before he spent there for 13 years, providing fantastic sailing holidays for different types of guests.

Since 1996 Eugène lives in the Netherlands again where he made daytrips with the Taurus, starting from Amsterdam, on the 'IJsselmeer'. But the Taurus was sold to a neighbour. On the beautiful berth place in Amsterdam (Levantkade, in front of the well known Barcelonaplein) Eugène lives now on the Pas Meprise which he restaurated completely last year.

As 'boats' are staying very attractive Eugène mediates nowadays in resaling boats for Interocean and he also regular navigates visitors of Amsterdam on a 'salonboot' through the various Amsterdam ports.

Also his brother Felix is still ever attracted by 'boats'; just like Eugène he always earned his living with 'boats'. Since a couple of years he bought the 'Compaen' and rebuilt it completely like new, offering a very luxury accomodation. Look at Reederij Reijmers -pages in Dutch only- for trips or accomodation. The berth place normally is in Arnhem.
